Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers enjoy the convenience of their key fob's remote that comes with features. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the car and start the engine and even locate the vehicle.
Place the fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button that releases it, place a coin between the cover and the fob, and pull up carefully.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs let you unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate, and flap for filling up with fuel at the push of one button. They also can switch on the ignition, activate the alarm, and even operate your sunroof if equipped. It's no longer necessary to search for your keys, or be locked out of your vehicle.

Hold your key fob with Volvo logo facing upwards, and unlock or lock the manual lock. Locate the black button that is situated near the edge of the body of your key fob and press it gently to open a cover that conceals a manual key blade. This cover can be flipped clockwise using a flathead, or coin.
Beginning the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide a level convenience and functionality that is not available with manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge, or cease working after a certain period of time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, it's a good sign that it's time to replace the battery.

With a fingernail, remove the cover on the back of the key fob. A button should be located under the cover at an angle near the edge of the body. You can remove it by sliding it downwards and then to the right. The cover will come out and slide off leaving the manual key blade inside! If you can't find the button, check the newly revealed manual key access to find an undiscovered lever or slot.
Close the Windows
One of the features that is hidden that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that they allow you to lower all windows in a matter of seconds when you use them. This is helpful in situations where you need to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or just want to breathe fresh air while driving.
Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if there is one. When you're finished with the car, you can close everything by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.
You can also activate the panic alarm inside your car using the key fob. This will make an alarm that is loud enough to draw attention and deter thieves. It will also assist you return home safely when you've been out all night. This feature is useful when you live in a secluded area or want to protect your family members when they are away.
Opening the Tailgate
Volvo's key fob comes with useful features. These are perfect for when you're juggling groceries or helping your kids load up their sports equipment after practice.
For example, if you have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it using the key fob. Press the button to open it, and press the same button to close it once you're done.
When you're ready to get your car started then use the key fob to press the START button (and don't worry about your battery dying or your car not starting because it has a backup key mechanical slot too). This is only one of many useful trick to use with your new Volvo.

Switching off the Alarm
Modern key fobs offer many advantages over a traditional mechanical car key. They can't always function perfectly and batteries may go out. If you're in a hurry, or aren't keen on going to an establishment to have your key fob reset, you can attempt to get it to work at home.
Set out your key fobs as well as batteries and additional keys on a clean surface. Place the key fob on the surface with the Volvo logo facing up and then locate a tiny black button on the bottom left of the fob and slide it to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off leaving the key's mechanical blade underneath it.
You can open all doors and the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's keypad twice. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you will be able to close the windows and shut the sunroof when they're equipped. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't work, the owner's manual should contain a procedure to reset the system.
